About Pernem
Pernem, in North Goa, was among the Novas Conquistas or new conquests added to Portuguese India in Goa in the eighteenth century AD. The town is renowned for its Dussehra festival, which is spread out over five days. It concludes with Kojagiri Pournima, which is Goa’s biggest feast. The event even draws devotees from the neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Like the other towns of Goa, Pernem is not without its Portuguese heritage. It is also home to the Igreja de São José chapel, which was established by the Portuguese in 1852 after the Novas Conquistas.
