About Annai Indira Gandhi road Bridge

Annai Indira Gandhi Road Bridge is the longest bridge in southern India. Constructed over the bay, it provides connectivity from the Rameswaram island to the mainland. It is 7 kms from the Rameswaram town and is also called the Pamban bridge, since it is located beside Pamban.

The place is said to be sacred because it is believed that Lord Rama quenched the thirst of Sita by throwing an arrow in the place and retrieved cold water.

It is an awe inspiring bridge for the visitors and especially the engineers who keep wondering on how it stands so tall and strong even today. Ships pass from under the bridge and it has become a convenient means of communication.
